Deb Roy's TED Talk: How Babies Learn To Speak

Deb Roy, the Director of MIT's Cognitive Machine group performed an interesting experiment where every moment of his life at home with his wife and child were recorded for three years via cameras and microphones installed in his home. The captured data was stored on a specialized disk array handling more than 200 terabytes of multitrack audio and video data. The purpose of the experiment was to gain insight into how babies learn to speak. By capturing the first there years of a babies life and running the captured footage through various types of analytics software, Deb gained intimate knowledge of not only how babies learn to speak but also how we as humans are affected by our environment.
